Windowframe
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
Description
What if your window manager was a puzzle game?
Windowframe is a little experimental puzzle game making use of the widely known capabilities of windows. In order to get to the goal for each level, you will have to move, scale, and stretch the windows in various ways, with some twists here and there.
Hope you enjoy! ^-^
Made for GMTK 2024, for the theme Built To Scale.
Very much inspired by Windowkill by torcado.
Controls
- WASD / Arrow Keys to move
- Mouse to move, scale, and stretch the windows

Install instructions
Download the version appropriate for your OS and run the executable, although we highly recommend you play it on Windows, as the Mac version does not work currently, and there have been reports of lag on the Linux version.
Warning: As this game is quite experimental, and uses the OS windows as a game mechanic, the game may be quite buggy, and depending on your screen resolution, certain game elements might go off screen if your screen resolution is too small, as the game was designed to be played on a 1920 x 1080 screen.
If you are unable to play due to these issues, we apologize in advance, and we appreciate you for giving our game a chance.

Pretty unique experience! All levels worked for me on KDE
That was amazing! I think you guys should make a full version of this game sometime. I had a lot of fun playing it!
how do you beat level 4?
Playing this was genuinely one of the coolest things I've recently experienced. Also it's kinda nice it's not ten thousand hrs of open world low effort content.
Why is it at the very top of my screen? I cant move it.
Either way its really cool and fun!
I really enjoyed playing Windowframe. I love the concept of using multiple windows on the desktop as part of the puzzle. It was very fun and creative. I even managed to finish it! Great job! I'm following you for more.
I played your game at 3:55 if anyone would like to see:
Out of all the games showcased in GMTK's video, Windowframe had the biggest "I need to try this now" factor for me. This was a very cool concept! Lots of neat little concepts.
Guys, how do i pass level 4?
For Linux users: you should use the windows version with Wine. Run winecfg and set the virtual desktop size to at least 1800x994.
inspired by this at all? Just saw the trailer and looked way too familiar!
Oh wow, the timing is perfect with the start of the jam. Our game was inspired by Windowkill, knowing it's possible because that was made in the same engine. Had no idea this game existed, but it looks so good!
Crazy how ideas overlap like that haha. Excellent game though!

i enjoyed this so much ?????
If anyone else has the same problem I had, this game breaks when you have more than one monitor, if it doesn't open properly, unplug your extra monitors, and then it should work no problem. Also, this is a really well made game and I cant even begin to understand how one goes about making a game like this.
It said it was i virus. I don´t believe it but i still didnt managed to open i
probably because windows (or the pc you use) detects viruses if they are in .exe format
Is amazing men, i really enjoy play your game and i never think that this was made in godot engine. congratulations!
How do you beat level 8? It doesn't seem possible to me
Hmm... on Windows, the "obstacles" are able to go out of bounds of the screen, but here it seems that your window manager is forcing the "obstacles" back into the screen, making the gap too small.
Sorry, but I'm not sure how else to help other than to suggest that you play it on Windows if you are able to. We've not had the chance to test this out properly on other OSs, so the experience of this game in any other OS is very hit or miss.
im on 1440x900 and one window on level 12 was out of the screen, it would be nice to have a way to scale every window down so it could fit in smaller resolutions
Same for me, as I have a square monitor, making no space to move the window.
nice concept.
unfortunately it did open on my system. would have loved to give it a try
Ah, sorry for that. Thanks for checking us out at least!
Amazing game, i was impressed the whole time!!!
Thanks a lot for playing!
LOVE .
Thanks!
yes i'll make sure to run that in my terminal while in a folder with a main.lua
It was such an interesting and creative game :D Didn't know such windows can be made into a puzzle game >_<
You may try to improve it by adding some time limit for each level and duration for the whole game. The time limit will let the player feel nervous and exciting while playing it haha
Nice game, keep it up ₊˚⊹♡
Thanks a lot for playing!
Very cool concept! Unfortunately it didn't work on my mac (M1).
Ah, damn it, that's unfortunate. Thanks for checking us out at least.
Yep, same here. Doesn't work on M1 unfortunately :(
crashes when u play? that's what happens to me aswell :[
It also crashes on my Intel Mac, right after the first level window opens.
But it’s an awesome concept!
We've taken the Mac build down for now until we get a working build. Thanks for checking out our game and letting us know!
This was WICKED cool. I thought it would have a new window with the whole UI nested in there, but it had multiple windows floating about which must have been a trick to make.
Yeah, it took us nearly 2 days just to R&D the mechanic, and then there's the slew of bugs that came with it... It's quite a miracle that we even managed to make a functioning product.
Thanks for playing, and glad you enjoyed it!
Do you have source code or anything like a video breaking down how you did the multiple windows? This is sick!
